I just STARTED a blog with no real idea how to do it, but love writing. Sitting looking out a second story window toward the woods that ring our back yard, I saw a large black dog run into the woods and a beautiful brown doe run out. Can’t beat that for inspiration and atmosphere!

I’m used to working alone as I’ve been self employed for a number of years, but I think the thing I struggle with the most is the lack of immediate reinforcement. In my other life I provide training, so I can see when I’m being successful based on my students’ reactions. But with writing there is nothing telling me that I’m doing the right thing, so it can sometimes be difficult to maintain my confidence. Mind, I will say that my cat is my favourite writing accessory as she likes to visit and head butt me periodically just to remind me that she’s there.

I have a puppy who lays at my feet and I must say that he makes me feel less lonely (but he also steals away my precious few hours to write because I have to take him outside to potty, or walk him, or stop him from destroying something). I do think that I could benefit from writing in a coffeehouse once a week or so…I think being surrounded by other people would shake things up a bit.

Great ideas. I especially like the idea of retreating close to home. Although I enjoy attendiing a quietly motivating local organization’s retreat every fall, nothing beats getting together at a home with others who understand your desire (need?) to write!
