Introducing the Procrastinating Writers Interns

by Jennifer on January 21, 2010

Procrastinating Writers has been growing by the days. It’s been an amazing journey, but it has grown so quickly it’s become too much for one person to handle.

So I recruited at my alma mater and found three fabulous interns.

They will be working with me to grow Procrastinating Writers to my 2010 goal of 50,000 visits a month.

They’ll be writing posts and contributing to the newsletteron Twitter and on the  Facebook group, so I wanted to introduce you to them:

Cristina Picozzi

My name is Cristina and I’m 20 years young. I love writing, reading, dancing, singing and shopping, just like every other girl in their twenties.

I’m a Public Relations and Journalism student in Central New York.

I’m outgoing and I talk a lot, but I’m really friendly.

I’m considering graduate school and I’m really interested in Georgetown University in Washington D.C.

I think I want to work for Disney Corp, but I still have a few years ahead of me before I have to decide on what I exactly want to do for the rest of my life, and even then I’ll have time.

Brenna Durr

I’m Brenna Durr; I’m 23 years old and was born and raised in Utica, N.Y. I am currently a senior at Utica College, majoring in Public Relations and minoring in both Journalism and Business Management.

I have previously interned at the American Red Cross as their Crisis Communication/ Public Relations Intern where I wrote press releases, fund-raised and planned several events and campaigns, such as the Annual Chili Challenge, Fire and Ice Gala and Hero’s Campaign.

I am also the firm director for Utica College’s student run Public Relations Firm, Pioneer Communications. As firm director I research, achieve and manage ways for our clients to reach their desired public through events, publications and social media, and I edit, revise and distribute all public relations and marketing materials.

I am also a member of the Utica College Programming Board, where we are in charge of the entertainment and events that go on at the College. The Society for Human Resources Management is another organization that I belong to and have done PR for. I work with SHRM helping the organization gain more awareness in hopes of gaining new members.

As a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America I, along with several other group members, were given the awesome opportunity of presenting at the 2009 National PRSSA Conference in San Diego.

I am so excited to have this great opportunity to work with Jen on Procrastinating Writers! I am also excited because I’ve wanted to learn about blogging for a very long time.

Renee Tomasek

My name is Renee Tomasek and ultimately my dream is to write for a women-directed magazine; however that dream is slowly turning into an editor’s position. I started writing when I was young as a way to express myself in a therapeutic-type way.

I have gone through a lot in my life, such as alcoholism (not mine) and other struggles in which writing served as my escape.

When I was in tenth grade I submitted a piece called, “Woman; Defined,” in which I talked about the struggles of women and teens; it was a free-writing piece (I thought). My English teacher looked it over and told me with some edits it could be my college essay.

I was completely shocked, but excited to know writing could be my future, as I had struggled with the idea of “what to do after high school” since I was about 8. Too young, I know, however, I went from wanting to be a jockey to a detective to Pocahontas to an interior designer to finally deciding writing was my calling.

I have written ever since, and discovered journalism by junior year in high school when I applied to a program called, New Visions: Journalism and Media Studies, an honors program in which I received college credits and hands-on experience in the field of journalism.

My dream is to inspire people through my writing and also to give people a voice through my writing as I uncover their stories. I am currently a freshman at Utica College, majoring in Public Relations and Journalism, and doing whatever I can to reach my dream.

I’m very excited to have three fabulous interns to work with this semester. Not only will they be getting hands-on blogging experience, but they will also be learning all about another possible career field, since blogging is the future of journalism.

They will also be helping me launch two other blog projects I’ve had on the back-burner for awhile.

We have a lot of really exciting stuff in the works for Procrastinating Writers this spring; be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss any of it.
